M25 Gade Valley Viaduct – Innovative Rolling Access Deck
Gade-Valley-Viaduct-Rolling-Deck-14

About the project

A clever solution to work on the underside of a motorway bridge was a rolling deck scaffold.

The deck was 65% smaller than a full-length deck. This saved erection and dismantling time, improved safety risk and reduced material quantities.

Specifically:

  • 25 working days was saved on erection with less crane hire, night work, noise and disruption to neighbours
  • Dismantling was less, saving 12-15 days
  • Less time was spent working at height and working over water
  • The Grand Union Canal remained navigable, and there were savings on the over sail licence
